Studies on the Histochemical Properties of the Mucosubstances in Some Mucous Glands of the Human

Abstract
A histochemical study was done on the histochemical properties of the iruc)substances in the several mucous glands of the human female adult, i, e. , lingual gland, mucous gland of tongue root, hard palatine gland, soft palatine gland, epiglottic gland, laryngeal gland, tracheal gland, esophageal cardiac gland, stomach cardiac gland, stomach pyloric gland, duodenal gland and cervix gland of the uterus.
The mucosubstances were stained with alcian blue(pH 0.4,1.0 and 2.5), PAS, alcian blue(pH 1. 0)-PAS, alcian blue(pH 2.5)-PAS and aldehyde fuchsin(pH 1. 7)-alcian blue (pH 2.5), and these were also stained with alcian blue(pH 2. 5) after prior treatment of active methylation and active methylation-sapcnification.
The results obtained were as follow:
1. It were distinguished from bright blue group and dark blue group of mucous alveoli as the result of alcian blue staining in the mucous gland of the lingual, tongue root, hard palatine, soft palatine, sublingual and submandibular gland. On the whole, those above glands were distributed much more bright blue group than dark blue group, while the submandibular gland more dark blue group.
2. The bright blue group of mucous alveoli were stained to bright blue with alcian blue (pH 0.4, 1.0 and 2.5), to bright red with PAS, to blue or bluish purple with alcian blue(pH 1.0 and 2.5)¡©PAS and to purple or bluish purple with aldehyde fuchsin(pH 1. 7)-alcian blue(pH 2.5), but the dark blue group of mucous alveoli were stainted to dark blue with alcian blue(pH 0.4, 1.0 and 2.5), to dark red with PAS, to red or reddish purple with alcian blue(pH 1.0 and 2.5)-PAS and to blue or blusih purple with aldehyde fuchsin(pH 1. 7)-alcian blue(pH 2.5).
3. The mucosubstances in the mucous gland of the lingual, tongue root, hard palatire, soft palatine, sublingual and submandibular gland were composed of acid and neutral mucosubstances, and the bright blue group of mucous alveoli contained greatly much ircre acid n:uccsubstaLces, while the dark blue group of mucous alveoli much more neutral mucosubstances.
The mucosubstances in the mucous gland of the epiglottic, laryngeal and tracheal gland and the cervix gland of uterus were also composed of acid and neutral mucosubstances, but those of esophageal cardiac, stomach cardiac, stomach pyloric and duodenal gland were only contained neutral mucosubstances.
4. The acid mucosubstances in the mucous gland of the lingual, tongue root, hard palatine, soft palatine, sublingual and submandibular gland were corsisted with sulfated and nonsulfated mucin, and the bright blue group of mucous alveoli of the above were contained much more sulfated mucin, while the dark blue group of mucous alveoli more nonsulfated mucin. On other hand, the acid mucosubstances in the mucous gland of epiglottic, laryngeal and tracheal gland and the cervix gland of the uterus were contained more sulfated mucin than nonsulfated mucin.
